Do You Have Pain in the Face, Jaw or Temple? Hurts when you are chewing your food or trying to open your mouth wide? The Brotman Facial Pain Clinic at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry is conducting a study comparing a new medication to a placebo in reducing temporomandibular disorders (TMD/TMJ) pain.
You may be eligible if you are:
Between the ages of 18 and 65
Have had jaw or muscle pain for at least the past 3 months
Participation involves:
An evaluation to confirm temporomandibular disorders (TMJ/TMD)
Completing at-home daily diaries for 1 month to determine eligibility.
If eligible:
Attend 6 clinic visits over a period of 21 weeks
Receive study medication or a placebo designed to treat TMJ pain
Earn $200 over the duration of the study and free parking vouchers

Have jaw muscle pain for 3 months or more
Have trouble sleeping
Participation involves:
An evaluation for TMJD
Completing interviews and questionnaires
Completing sensory testing procedures
An at-home sleep study
Pain management techniques for TMJD-related difficulties
Duration: 20 weeks
Earn $25 for initial study screening and up to $625.00 if you complete the remainder of the study and reimbursement for parking.

Subjects must be women between the ages of 40-75
Post-menopausal by history
Able to attend non-invasive testing of approximately 12 total hours over 2 days

Centennial Research Center has been conducting Clincal trials since 2005, and has successfully completed studies in a variety of internal medicine and family practice indications, as well as vaccine studies involving healthy volunteers.

Do You Suffer From Migraine Headaches?

Researchers at University of Maryland Dental School and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine are looking for volunteers with migraine headaches to participate in a research study examining the effects of two different non-medication interventions for reducing headaches. The interventions focus on learning different stress management techniques and one group will learn meditation.

Have a history of migraines lasting at least 1 year
Are not currently using opioid (“narcotic”) pain medication

An evaluation for migraine

One or more MRI’s of your brain
Completing at-home daily migraine diaries
A 12 session program for stress management
All examinations, parking, & tests are provided at no cost to you

If so and you are age 18 to 65 with no history of chronic pain other than migraine you may be eligible to participate in a brain imaging study.
This study involves about 3 hours of participation during one visit to the UM Center for Brain Imaging Research in Catonsville, MD (www.mdbrain.org) and 28 days of tracking your migraines using a headache diary.
Participants will fill out questionnaires; undergo sensory tests involving warmth and painful heat; and have an MRI scan. All records and results will be kept confidential. Participants will be compensated for their time and will receive a photocopy of your brain MRI.
